The Vineyards

The vineyards are situated inside the “il Pollenza” estate,  which is 25 km from the coast and 35 km from the Sybilline Mountains. The vines are arranged at different heights, varying between 110 to 150 metres above sea level. Within the vineyard, one can find internationally renowned grape varieties like, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc; as well as local varieties including, Ribbona, Trebbiano, Sangiovese and Maceratino. The first international vines date back to 1996, while the native vines go back more than 40 years.

Harvesting takes place between the end of August and mid-September. Grapes are primarily harvested by hand and put in wooden crates, though this is supplemented by machinery equipped with the latest technologies. On the whole the use of machinery is kept to a minimum, as harvesting by hand is favoured.

The soil depth ranges from medium to deep and is comprised of a medium mixture, tending to clayish and pebbly in part. A vertical trellising system is used throughout the vineyard. With regard to pruning, the spurred cordon method is used for the red grapes, whilst the guyot pruning method is applied to the white vines. The vinicultural technician is Dr. Giovanni Campodonico, who is supported by Dr. Valerio Barbieri.
